National Lottery Open Week is back and takes place from Saturday 9th – Sunday 17th March 2024!
To say thank you for the £30 million raised for Good Causes every week by players, National Lottery funded venues are offering free entry, discounts and special offers throughout National Lottery Open Week.
All these fabulous North East venues are taking part (choose 2 or 3):
* Gibside, near Rowlands Gill is a Georgian landscaped garden with valley views, woodland, and beautiful walks. For the kids there is the Strawberry Castle play area, the Low Ropes course, and a chance to build a den.
* Wallington was the home of Sir Charles Philips Trevelyan. There are lots of lawns, lakes, and woodland, plus a walled garden, walks by the river, and play areas for the children.
* Seaton Delaval Hall is a Grade I listed country house You can discover the industries on which the Delaval family's wealth was built and have a look round this beautifully preserved home. Outside there are manicured gardens and a large play area for the kids.
* Souter Lighthouse was the world’s first lighthouse designed to be lit by electricity. You can climb to the top and explore its working history, and then enjoy two-and-a-half miles of clifftop grassland and wildflower meadows.
* The RSPB Saltholme Nature Reserve near Middlesbrough has hides and screens that let you get super close to all sorts of birds, plus a family discovery zone, cafe, play area and accessible trails.
* Segedunum Roman Fort is a major site on Hadrian's Wall. It is the most excavated fort along the Wall. There is a large interactive museum plus full-scale reconstructions of a bath house (currently viewed externally only) and a section of Wall. The 35 metre high viewing tower provides outstanding views across this World Heritage Site.
* Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens has everything. You can roam through the unique micro-climate of the Quarry Garden with exotic plants around every twist and turn and enjoy the quirky open spaces around the Hall and the castle. Wander up the spiral staircase of the castle to see fantastic views over the Northumbrian countryside.
* Berwick Barracks was built in the early 18th century and was among the first in England to be purpose built. The 'By Beat of Drum' exhibition gives you an insight into the life of the British infantryman from the Civil War to the First World War.
* Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery won the 2021 Kids in Museums Family Friendly Award. Learn about the history of Alnwick and District over the past 10000 years through interactive displays, photographs, and text.
* Sunderland Empire Theatre Tours Explore show the stunning interiors of the theatre and you can learn about the famous performers who have graced the stage over the years.
* The Common Room lets you dive into the evolution of technology and human ingenuity and explore the remarkable stories that have shaped the North East.
